Mystery Plant
« on: July 04, 2010, 14:12 »
Does anyone know what this plant might be.  I have no recollection of where it is from.  I could have pinched a cutting from someones garden whilst walking the dog (from the path of course!) or it may be been in another plant pot by mistake....I have no idea.  It must be hardy as the soil it is in is very unloved!!!!

Yes, another pic but more of a closeup of the leaf so we can identify it.

That would make sense, it is very hardy.  No idea how it ended up in my garden.  Could have been a bird poo?  Do birds eat the berries??????  Thank you very much X

Could it be a viburnum (or is it spelt Vibernum)? Anyway, I'm absolutely rubbish at ID ing plants on here so it's probably not..........I just wanted to join in!! Jude.

Mrs Hamstergbert and I regularly have to drag out cotoneasters that the birds have, er, 'planted' round and about, including a couple of dozen each year in cracks between stones.

We did out of curiousity allow a couple to develop in the early years a quarter of a century or so ago and found that they grew very plain and not at all with the tight 'fishbone' form of the C. Horizontalis that the birds were eating from a few spots around the grounds to load their gastric planting hoppers with.

Slightly less annoying than the groves of horse chestnut seedlings every year courtesy of those ruddy bushy tailed grey tree rats!
