I've got a small garden in a rented house. Second year of growing veg, veg plot is very small (2 x 1x2.5m).

Ive got peas, broad beans, mangetouts in the ground and bean and tomatos waiting to go in (haven't got a freezer so all these are great in the summer).  Salad lettice will go in deep trays, got potatos in pots, will have shallots and carrots in pots also. Also got courgetes and articokes, but I've realised their not for the small gardener!, think on about them.

So I know come autumn the ground will be empty.  Can I grow purple sprouting in pots now and plant them out when the ground is free.

Has anyone tryed this?
or
what would you grow if you were me?

cheers for any ideas

Just curious since I did lots of container veg growing before the lottie, how big of pots are you using for the carrots and what variety are you growing? I grew a round  variety once but that was in an old washing up bowl/tub as I had heard you need a very deep container for normal carrots. Lettuces on the other hand do not need depth so much. We are trying to grow two seed potatoes in a bin bag at the moment here.

I'm not sure if you'd be able to as I don't know if brassicas are fussy about their root development or if they'd be stunted in growth in the pot.
wistfully hoping to one day be mostly organic gardener in North London.

You can grow near enough anything in pots if the pot's big enough. Generally, brassicas like deep soil and I'm not sure purple sprouting is the best use of space in a really tight area - maybe a calabrese would be better.
