I am getting ready to cut my netting to size for my soft fruit cages which I was able to buy last Winter from Harrod and noticed that they provided two different sizes of netting.

The Strawberry cage was correctly provided with what I would call "bird" netting with holes big enough for pollinators whereas the soft fruit cage was provided with "insect" netting since it was originally intended for brassicas.

Is "insect" netting going to be OK for a young blackcurrant and redcurrant pair or should I grab another "bird" net to allow pollinators through during the period that there is visible fruit developing? I have no idea how long the soft fruit plants will still flower once the first fruits are set and growing.

 I use debris netting on my redcurrants (I don't net my blackcurrants).

I cover them once the berries have formed but before they have ripened. I've never noticed the plant still being in flower when it needs covering. I find the bird tends to strip the bush a week or so before they look ripe to the human eye.

If you do something similar I'm sure the insect netting will be fine.
