Just wondered.....as my girls (apart from 1) will be slowing down from next year I think. Will the girls go broody after 3 years of age? Only I want them to be useful and have some purpose if they are not stocking the shelves!!  They will however remain amusing pets whatever!!

Think it depends on your breed as to when they stop laying, although each chicken only has so many eggs.  When my girls stop laying there would only be one that naturally goes broody a few times a year, the others could not care less so do not think once they stop they will automatically go broody - much fun to have around whatever they are doing.

Yeah - 2 have been broody already. I just wondered if they will bother from now on tho! As far as I'm concerened - they are my orginals - all have names and will not be going anywhere except my garden!! Despite OH's protestations!!! He he he!! 

Just thought it would be easier than going out and getting new girls and introducing them etc etc
