To move or not to move?
« on: April 21, 2008, 12:31 »
Hi
I have a broody and am getting some eggs for her (they should be arriving tomorrow).  She is taking her job very seriously - so seriously infact that she doesn't get of the nest to eat or drink or poo.
I have been removing her twice a day for her to do this but she spends very little time eating and just poos and pegs it back to the nest.

My worry is I haven't seen her drinking.  She will stuff some corn in (not touching pellets) and thats it.

As she has, potentially, another 3 weeks to go then I'm a bit worried about have fluid intake.  I have put a bowl of water next to the nest box for her but am sure she's so obssessed with her eggs (golfballs!) she's not even looking at it.  She will feed from my hand while nesting but ignores water.

Should I be worried - what can I do about it?

The same is happening with thousands of broodys as we speak all over the UK, so I wouldn't worry. When she needs a drink, she'll have one

I bought a caged bird drinker that hooks on to the side of a cage. It hooks on to the edge of my nest boxes so I just fill it and leave it with the broody
Of all the things I've lost, I miss my mind the most!!

Today is the first day I saw my broody have a proper drink! She's been sitting for a week, so she must have had some before just I've not noticed
She has a little dish of water in with her which I change twice a day.

They aren't daft, well maybe some are sometimes
