I have some lovely Purple sprouting broccoli, which I have been patiently waiting for, however now it is looking purple and 'headed' but the stems don't have any length like I see in the ostems in the grren grocers, so do I leave them longer? to grow longeR? I would hate to loose them or let them.... well what does happen to them? do they blow like sprouts do?
How do I know when to pick, the main heads are small and short and loads of tiny heads around some still covered in leaves some have grown out of the leaves.
thanks
Lucy

The longer the stems get the worse they taste. The stems quickly become very stringy and horrible. When I pick mine the stems are no longer than 3-4 inches.
