New Trees
« on: December 08, 2016, 21:52 »
Pears are here  ;)

Really pleased with the onward and winter nelis, well feathered maidens, good graft and good roots and Im pretty sure I see a fruit bud or 2  :D - the beth however is pitiful  >:( It's a stretch to call it a whip.

The brown turkey fig is also a bit of a disappointment I was expecting a lot more for the money, hopefully it's just had a haircut for transport and it will put some growth on quickly next spring.

I couldn't resist sneaking a Christmas Pippin apple onto the order last minute..... I know, but you can never have too many apples.  It's also nicely feathered, well rooted and cleanly grafted - all in all a bit of a mixed bunch.  ::)

It's going to be tough to cut all those feathers off to shape the espaliers - I do hate waste, perhaps I should order some more rootstock and graft them

I had them from Keeper's - ordered early and by the looks of their website if I'd have waited I could have picked some of the trees up for £4 each less.  they were around £16/17 each. To be honest I only used them as my local people didn't do the pyrodwarf root stock.

There's a big difference in growing conditions (soil and temperature) between Kent and here and I'll be interested to see how well they take compared to the tree I had last week from walcot's which were a little smaller but still in good shape.

Delivery cost is the pain - both were around £14
