I bought a few cat litter trays from £land today and darned if I can remember what I'm meant to do with them ???
I think they are for leeks? If not, what else can I use them for?
Do I need to drill drainage holes before use?
Put me out of my misery pleeeeeeeeease.

http://chat.allotment-garden.org/index.php?topic=26363.0 for leeks :D
-
If you are planting/sowing in them they will need drainage holes.
They also make good trays to stand pots on in the greenhouse (without holes of course ;) )
-
Whatever you do - don't try and drill holes - you can crack the plastic.
Use a hot skewer or similar to melt holes in the bottom.
My first pricking outs of larger bedding plants such as pelargoniums also go in them.

Don't forget the radish, and the CnC lettuce.
-
Yes, of course - the perfect unnibbled radish!

The chippie isn't open today so will go tomorrow and see if I can get any polystyrene trays.
Got the OH to drill holes in the cat litter trays and seemed to work so sowing leeks to tomorrow.

Fish is also good for plants, FB&B

Local chippy get their fish frozen and in plastic bags. Would make sense as I am sure their chips aren't from real potatoes.
-
Inconvenient on all fronts then, except maybe for the f&c shop I suppose!
-
Good news is that the leeks are happy in their cat litter trays. So much so I went back and bought a few more and got some weird looks but who cares.
Bad news is that didn't make it to the chippy. :(

Salad leaves? Radishes? Herbs?
-
got cat litter for leeks. salad leaves it will be in polystyrene box, knew i,d get helpful idea,s here.

I have been saving the plastic cartons off my mince washing them and using these to stand pots in and also start off seedlings ... Recycling at its best :D Neva thought of using cat litter trays ...
-
I certainly won't be buying seed trays anytime soon as the cat litter trays are cheaper and much more robust.... And three trays from poundland fit perfectly into a root trainer racking system.

Disaster! Planted in the old litter tray, put on windowsill . Sadly cat was confused, and now I come to think about it I can't really blame him. Made a right mess though and I'll have to start again.

I've got an indoor rabbit that is litter tray trained and hadn't thought of what could happen. So far, no problems but thanks for the heads up!!
