Is this a sign of them being males? Im hoping not as it would seem that most of them are males if this is the case 

Also does the 'trick' of holding them upside down and seeing who relaxes and who pecks a good way of sexing? Im not sure they'd appreciate it either way lol

female chicks will also bash chests - it is a way of sorting out the dominance thing.

My pullets still bash chests and flare their neck-feathers at each other and they're over 20 weeks old.    They pretty much have a routine of doing it every morning when I let them out of the coop.  I wonder if they will ever grow out of it.

Yes I think it is teenage behaviour.  They're all about "look at me!" and "I'm bigger/stronger/faster than you!"  and "what you looking at?!"

Maybe once they start laying they'll settle down.

hubby and I call it the bump bumps and we find it cute when the little chicks do it nah i dont think they grow out of it as our hens still do it we will see as they get older in years
