With the recent wet weather, the run has become rather soggy,so until the weather improves, what is the best floor covering we can put down so the girls dont have to endure wet feet all day..hay or straw...22' x 20' run. thank you...Lorie

don't use hay, hay is an animal feed but it is not good for chickens  :(

Hi

I have exactly the same size run as you and I lay straw down. When they muck it over and gets a little dirty I just add a fresh layer. When the height builds up too much I clean it out and start again.

Maybe because I have a plentlyful supply of good quality straw from the faerm where I work. It works really well for my set up. Hope it helps,

Alex

your best bet is to call any local tree surgeons an ask for shredded trees also known as wood bark but make sure they havent been cutting down any laurel trees as they are toxic to the birds . sometimes u can get it for free or a small charge may apply , i get a lorry load in every few months or when the weather allows it now i am learning u shovel it in leave it in one big pile an let the girls do the spreading they will adore it  :D :D
