Title: pests and diseases
Post by: Sue & Wilf on July 19, 2007, 21:41
Please can someone help.  I have a Lilac tree in my garden which until about 1 month ago was looking very healthy and had plenty of flowers on it as normal.  However, the leaves have over the last month turned brown.  I thought it might have been wind/rain damage.  There is a young shoot growing from the base which also looks healthy and I have another Lilac which is in fine health.  I wondered if it could be a pest or disease that has caused the problem and if so, has anyone any ideas as to what it might be and how to treat it.

did you know that lilacs can suffer from blight - although normally more common in the spring - what with the weather we have been having - this is quite likely your culprit.

spray with a bordeaux mixture now and again in the spring as the leaves start to show / uncurl.

Could be honey fungus. I hope not.
