goats and pigs kept in pairs?
« on: August 03, 2009, 15:35 »
Hello all, bit new to all this but we have chickens and are thinking of moving on to pigs and goats...maybe.

I have been told in the past that pigs should not be kept on their own as they get lonely. I was also told the same just recently about goats ..is this true? Would a goat and a pig keep each other company? Not really confused!
a mum is for life..not just for cleaning! ;@)

I have not kept pigs and goats together but I would say if the pig is for eating then it will mature quicker than the goats, and therefore have to leave. The the goat being on its own. What about two pygmy goats and two pigs?

I think I would have two of each as well to keep each other company, pigs and goats are such different creatures and I would imagine have different dietry requirements  :).

Hi, just joined so very late with threads.  Catching up  ::)

I have Kune Kune and Golden Guernsey, the goats are used to the pigs now and happy to share grazing and field shelter, both pigs and goats graze.  Was good to see  Kune Kune Skippy, with her babies in their nest, sharing the field shelter with the goats  :D

They do have separate shelters they can use.

Look forward to hearing how things go  :)  Good Luck!

Thanks for the replies. It looks like we are going to go for the goats first! Not yet tho. We have 12 ex batt hens arriving soon and want ducks and need to extend things in that area first. Then we can concentrate on the goat/pig issue
