Crimson Crush tomato - blight resistant?
« on: February 02, 2017, 13:47 »
On a packet of Suttons CC tomato bought today I note the claim '100% Blight Resistant'.

At four quid for 10 seeds I'd like to know if this is true in the experience of growers on here.

Thanks

It is definitely resistant, but it's not blight-proof. IMO it's good to get any outside crop and good for sauce. A mixed bag of reviews here..

I grew them last year, and even when blight attacked the other tomatoes, Crimson Crush continued to crop. Sometime a little blight was obvious on the leaves, but after a little while it seemed to shrug it off and the blight didn't progress on the plant.  I had a really good harvest from them, right into October. There were even a few toms on at the beginning of November, but then the plants did get blight.  I think they were too exhausted and coming to the end of their life anyway, to fight off blight any longer.
I will grow some again this year, but I'm also going to try one called "Mountain Magic", which is also supposed to be blight resistant.

I admit they're not the tastiest tomato that can be home grown, but they're certainly better than no tomatoes at all, or the completely insipid ones available from supermarkets.
The taste can always be boosted with a really nice dressing if they're being eaten fresh, or if cooking, obviously there are loads of herbs and spices that can be added.

My Crimson Crush tomatoes were still green and growing in autumn last year (with just light blight damage on the leaves), all other tomatoes had already given up by then. They also started cropping earlier than the other tomatoes and the taste was average to good for homegrown tomatoes I would say. And much better than supermarket ones.
I will grow Crimson Crush again this year.

Yep that was my thoughts about them too.  :( Only marginally better than shop-bought.  If you're worried about total loss of your crop I can understand planting a few but I'll not be bothering with them again.
