Title: New Puppy!
Post by: HelenK on October 08, 2010, 13:42
Just wanted to tell you all about the new addition to our family that we are collecting tomorrow. Poppy is a 7 week old long haired Jack Russell! I can’t wait! It’s been nearly a year since we had to have our old rescue doggie put down as he got lung cancer, the poor thing. Our families have both always had rescue dogs but we’ve always wanted to have a puppy so we thought we’d go for it this time.

My other half works for a computer company that do home visits, he went to a farm near Tiverton to fix a PC and had a 3 week old puppy thrust in his face! After some discussion (not much!) we decided to get a bitch, mostly because my OH’s work have said she can go to work with him, it’s only a small office next to their house.

These pics are of the first time we went to see the litter at 4 weeks old, we really wanted a pup with an eye patch and she was the only one. She’s really good natured, confident and attentive but patient and gentle at the same time, we often saw her getting nibbled and climbed on by her littermates and she was very tolerant without being a pushover!

Isn't she a cutie, I'm beside myself with excitement! The breeder still has a few left if anyone wants one, mixture of long and short haired!

She is soooo gorgeous, what a lovely little girl
We want loads of pics. :) When is she coming home?

We've always had big or biggish dogs and a JRT was never on my wish list.  But about  2years ago I was having a bit of a think when  it came to me that what I needed was a Jack ::) So i got one.  I've loved all our dogs but this little bundle is the best all rounder ever, I couldn't ask more from a dog :D

You'll have hours of fun and loads of cuddles, perfick :D

We pick her up at 3pm tomorrow. I promise to take loads of pics, the weather is supposed to be nice tomorrow so we'll introduce her to the garden. Our old dog was a lab/staffie cross and quite big so it'll be quite nice to have a little dawgy around.

We have been collecting loads of newspapers for a while, hoping for not too many accidents although of course expecting a few!

We've got her booked in for her first set of jabs on Monday, I'll have to be brave! Want to get her out and about ASAP as there are lots of lovely doggy people in our village and we have a nice one acre communal garden for lots of playtime as well as some beautiful walks.

We also have 2 cats which will be fun, the breeder has loads of cats wandering around the place and our cats were bought up with a much bigger dog so we're hoping it will be ok. If anyone has any advice about this I'd be grateful. We're hoping that if she's bought up with them from a puppy then she'll be ok with them.

I'm sure it will be ok, they will soon sort things out between themselves.

When my little girl came she was 8weeks like Poppy but it was January and the weather was terrible , cold and snowy.  Not good for a puppy with short legs.  So i made a baby sling and carried her about the farm when i did things like feed the chickens or walked down to the lake to do the ducks.  She soon just accepted everything as the norm and i can trust her now with all the stock.  She does have a bit of a romp with the cats sometimes but its all play and they can hold their own.
