Introducing my girls
« on: April 13, 2009, 19:27 »
Hi Everyone,

Firstly, apologies for not posting pics of my chooks when I joined the forum in early March.  I attach a couple of pictures and would be grateful if anyone can identify the parentage of either Ramona or Rosie!  Dottie is a Silver Laced Wyandotte I think (hence the name), but I am not sure what Ramona is.  Rosie is a real cute bird and has rapidly become tame and hence my favourite, but I am not sure what she is!  I also have a Welsummer (Eggwina), a Light Sussex (Blanche) and a Cuckoo Maran (I think) called Attila - she is a big girl!  I think all the girls are laying now but a bit sporadic with some - Blanche is still  quite young I think - tiny comb, hardly showing yet and sweet little eggs, and the same for Rosie.  Do I assume that Rosie and Ramona are from mixed parentage??

I'm no hen expert but your hens are absolutely beautiful!  Oh how I envy you a Wyandotte!  I'm guessing mixed parentage - but I'm no expert!
When I die I will slide in sideways, a glass of wine in one hand and chocolate in the other, screaming, "Whooo hooo!  What a ride!" as life is to be enjoyed to the fullest!

I have a gold laced Wyandotte, they are beautiful aren't they.  Isn't Romana the same?

I had wondered if Ramona was a Wyandotte or part Wyandotte - there are similarities, including flashes of blue iridescent colouring in her feathering, but she lacks the lace effect.  I have attached photos of my other girls too.  I think Attila is a Cuckoo Maran, and Eggwina is a Welsummer.  Blanche is the most nervous of them all, and I supposed she was the youngest, but Rosie has quite a small comb too.
