but how deep would i have to dig the holes?
how much concreat would i need(for about 10 main posts)?
or how alse could i do it?

Do you really need a fence? It seems like an awful lot of effort which could be spent on digging or sitting in your shed drinking tea.
On our site not many people have fences (although the whole site is surrounded by a giant council fence with barbed wire on the top).
People who do have fences use pallets, doors and anything else they find in skips.
Self-sufficient in rasberries and bindweed. Slug pellets can be handy.

I'd suggest driving steel post holders which hold the wooden post off the ground.  Reasonable chance you'd get them out if you ever moved.

For example : http://www.outdoorwoodstore.com/prod_ozpost.shtml

I used a similar thing (Metposts) to anchor my flying greenhouse. They were hard to hammer in and our soil is quite good.
There are such things as posthole borers you can hire but I don't know how hard they are to use.
Try: http://www.hss.com/g/62720/Post-Hole-Borer-Manual.html to get an idea.
Maybe someone with a bit more experience of this will come along soon.

the link I posted suggested using an air-powered jackhammer. Don't you have one of them then?  :D

Check around and ask the vendor before buying.

I thought of using metposts too, only my lottie hits solid clay around 6 inches down at the perimeters where it has never been dug.  So I am going to dig and concrete the posts.  I am having a pallet fence with the pallets joined to the posts with wire.  I shall be having small people staying hopefully after Christmas and need to be able to contain them in my own plot, plus we have a huge bunny problem so a fence is the first (but not only) line of defence.

Loads of pallets preferablly the 8ft X 4ft ones

Dig a hole put a post in wedge with half briks and big stones
line up the pallet  (longest side to the ground) putting packing in plavce to hold it where you want it mark where the next post goes
try everything for size
nail the pallet to the first post
put the second post in
nail the pallet to the second post

repeat till the fence is long enough grows quick if you can get the 8ft pallets

When its all up cover at least the bottom half with wire mesh keeps little things out!!!!!!

munty is made of pallets except he is in east of england soon to be scotland...

have you tried rooting around in skips on the business parks and industrial estates of blandford on a quiet sunday morning - it could be quite productive wood / pallet wise and definately worth a look.
