hello all.  anyone ever been troubled with red mites on themselves?  If so, could you always see them on your skin, or just feel them moving/biting?  Thanks.  Is there any human treatment?

Hi Monty
I wrote in about this a couple of weeks ago (creepy crawlies on hens). In my experience yes you can see them on yourself but they did make me feel itchy even after I knew I'd got rid of the little pests off myself. Even writing about it now is making me start scratching again....

That's the ironic thing, karl.  I found a small group of mites in a small shed I used to keep chickens in a while ago - birds vacated the place a fair while back after my break in when I had birds nicked.  I went in there to take some wood out and spotted them around a hole in a piece of wood I removed.  Started to itch afterwards but I've not seen any on me, so think I am really being paranoid.  After another bath last night I haven't itched since!  But you are right about the n eed for cleanliness.  I squirt virkon-k all around my pens and just about to add mite powder in new place, just incase.

Those red mites must have been very hungry without any hens to feed on for a while Monty.  They can survive without a blood feed for about 8 months. So beware anyone using second hand equipment
