Auriculas - any experienced growers out there?
« on: December 09, 2008, 11:06 »
I bought a few Auriculas last year to try growing for a change, but they look very poorly now, hardly any new growth and very small limp leaves.   :(
Has anyone tried growing them and can offer any tips on how I can revive them ready for the spring.  They are planted in small terracotta pots and in a coldframe at the moment.

Don't worry if they are looking sad just now. They always do during the winter when they are dormant and this is also why there is no fresh growth. Keep them in the cold frame over the winter with a little water every now and then but not when they are frozen. Did you re-pot them in the autumn? If not you should do this when they start to show signs of growth in the spring - normally in February.

My wife loves them, we had quite a few nice ones till my hens eat most of them   anyway like Auricula says they look pretty miserable this time of year.  :(
He who asks is a fool for five minutes, but he who does not ask remains a fool forever.

Thanks for the advice, yes I did repot them in September.  I wondered if that had upset them.  I will keep fingers crossed.
