Unusual tomatoes

(1/1)

AlaninCarlisle:
After almost a lifetime of growing the normal such as Moneymaker etc, I tried a couple of new-to-me varieties this year. Supermama (huge but prone to blossom end rot and very slow to ripen) and St Pierre which are quite large and have a fabulous taste but again seem prone to blossom-end rot

Hortic:
I try different beef tomatoes  each year and always grow the cherry 'Sungold', maybe with a different cherry tom as well. There are heritage varieties out there with good flavour but growth problems such as being prone to blossom end rot that have been superseded by modern varieties. It's a little thrill to taste a new variety for the first time.
Personally I find 'Moneymaker' and ''Gardeners Delight' bland and dull.
Keep looking, keep trying. Keep watering.
And my toms aren't ripening yet either. We've lost our seasons.
