Storage of damaged carrots
« on: October 15, 2013, 19:06 »
Hi all,

Something has nibbled the top off my carrots I have seen a video of youtube of someone actually cutting the top inch off the carrot and dabbing the exposed inside flesh in the dirt and then putting them into storage.

Just wondering if anyone has done the above?

If not is there any other way of getting them to store satisfactory now they have been damaged?

Thanks

Matt

hi matt

I just peel and slice my damaged carrots and bung them in the freezer  :D

good clean undamaged ones go in dryish compost in layers in the garage - keep a look out for mice during the winter  ;)

I've never bothered to store carrots before, and left them in the ground, but thinking further, it would only take half a bag of compost, and a plastic crate or wooden supermarket tray, to layer the rest of our carrots for the winter...

Hmm... may just do that, we've got at least twenty pounds or so in the ground...

Thanks for the idea, Strider!
