Title: Leeks?
Post by: johnthepost on May 22, 2014, 15:36
Sown some Musselburgh leeks last August and planted them out in October.
I pulled them up a couple of weeks ago because they were still looking a bit spindly, surrounded by weeds plus I needed the ground for Carrots and Parsnips.
Took the "leeks" home to the chef. She started preparing them for a soup when she called me a daft so-and-so.
They turned our to be Spring Onions!!!!!!. I checked the old biscuit tin where I keep my packets of seeds.
None were spring onions, but I had two packets of leeks. One unopened other opened. So I am absolutely certain I was planting leeks. The only thing I can think of is that it was a rogue packet with the wrong seeds in.
Anybody had this happen to them???

Leeks need a long time to mature, I think the august sowing was a tad on the late side, you need to be sowing them now, I have just planted out mine for this year/next spring
