Title: Dog food question
Post by: elibump on January 09, 2011, 10:07
After a traumatic visit to the vets yesterday, I am looking for advice from anyone out there who makes their own dog food (I have read John's bit in Frugal Living, obviously, but need a bit of extra advice).

Our elderly dog probably has diabetes and the vet 'hinted' that it might be controlled by making our own dog food rather than buying special diet food for senior and diabetic dogs.  Can anyone offer a 'recipe' or give me the web site where I can obtain extra information and 'recipes' - apart from anything else, I have to convince the Gaffer who is really into scientific support for decisions such as this.

Thank you for any help/advice whatsoever.

Eli xx

you can try the barf diet just put the words barf in to the seach engine.

This is fresh meat/bones and veggies. I add a little cottage cheese and raw egg and sometimes oily fish.

I dont know if this is suitable for diabetics but i dont see why not. you can also get fresh food from a company called landywood who are very good with advice if you wanna call them

rachel Eli is in France so buying the meat from Landywoods may not be possible - although I am sure they could still give advice.
I once fed a GSD on a BARF diet but she suffered skin problems which only cleared up when we swapped to a dried feed so wasn't suitable for mine  :(.

My Aunt had border collies and all they ate was boiled chcicken and brown rice!  Very healthy dogs they were!

Our Penny does eat tinned dog food, but she also eats a lot of chicken and turkey.  I wonder why? lol

Burns do a diabetic dog food that's supposed to be very good (if you don't want the hassle of making your own dog food), but I'm not sure if it's available in France...
