I've bought a couple of Dahlia tubers. I'm unsure of the appropriate time to place them into a container of moist compost to encourage cuttings? Is it now, March or April? Thanks.

I've put mine on a tray of dryish compost in the house. Figured that was better than leaving them in the plastic bag they came in. Everything else seems to be sprouting into life at the moment.

I'll be hauling mine out of the cold storage in March and potting them so they get a head start. If I wait to plant them directly outside, they tend to flower just as the fall frosts hit  If I buy any new ones between then, I'll pot them right away as they'll already be sprouting from warm shops.

We started sparking ours off last week, but we have heated beds which they'll stay on until they go into a frost free greenhouse in april and eventually get planted out near the end of may.

Without all that I wouldn't bother for at least another month, and probably nearer april
