My ducks are about 20/22 weeks old. They were brought as khaki cambells but as they grow I beg to differ? Two look like rouen's one is anyones guess and the boy (he was supposed to be a girl!!?) well I think he is a khaki....I could put on some pictures but I've no idea how?? Anyway when should they lay and what should I look out for????

Hi Matilda

Kate has white cambells, I think she said about 24 weeks for laying.
I have Call Ducks an they don't lay very many, but for me that isn't a bad thing, had 14 in one day this May off my tribe of girls (chickens, ducks, guinea fowl & geese )

I also have Runners and they're only 7/8 weeks old :D

Just before they start laying the abdomen will swell noticeably, you might also notice a change in bill colour slightly :)

Sarah :)

Vember's right.

My white Campbells started laying at 24 weeks but one of them took a lot longer (a bit of a dud duck). What do you mean when you say you think they are more like rouens? They are very different ducks (although hard to tell when you don't have anything to compare to). If you could post a pic it would help a lot. Both Rouens and khaki Campbell drakes look a bit mallard like  but the girls are pretty different as the rouens have blue wing flashes.
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.

Google Rouens. They have a really distinct body shape with a deep keel. Campbells look much more like "standard" ducks

They do look like they have a lot of mallard in them.

I'm not clued up on the different breeds though. One of the gurus should be on soon.  :)

Rouens should be massive compared with Campbells, two or three times the size.
The term Khaki Campbell has been used to cover a multitude of sins by some people. They certainly aren't pure Khakis, nor are they pure malards. All is not lost though, they may yet prove to be good layers.

I'm sure that you know this, but the one at the back is a drake.
