Left over Tulip bulbs
« on: February 06, 2010, 09:53 »
We have some tulip and narcissi bulbs accidentally left over from last autumn. I assume they will dry out by next autumn. Do I just chuck them. Any ideas, as I hate to waste anything.

I would plant them. They won't do anything this spring but may well do next year. I've just planted a mixed load of mystery bulbs that we inherited along with some waif and stray plants. The more the merrier! :)

My local garden centre has been giving away all its autumn bulbs free, so I took a few packs, im going to plant them out and see what happens  :D

I bought some about this time last year in the nursery 'cause they were about quarter of the price.  It was a mixture of red tulips and white crocuses.  I had two amazing tubs of colour from them.  I overplanted the tubs with summer bedding plants but left the bulbs in and noticed yesterday that they're coming up again. :)

Gardeners Question Time, radio 4, did a trial last year to see how late you could plant tulips and still get get results.
If I remember correctly, the bulbs plant in late Feb. gave almost as good a show of flowers as the earlier planted bulbs only the stems were shorter. :)
Put them in somewhere, they might give you a nice surprise  :)
