Damage by rodents?
« on: April 27, 2019, 10:57 »
Hi - can anyone advise on what I think is damage to my sugar peas by rodents? Plants were robust, about 12" high and found most of them had been severed just above soil height. I cover my plot in myplex over winter and always find rodent runs under them in the spring, so I know I have the little creatures in residence. Apart from an unsuccessful attempt at trapping them, I've been resigned to living with them - until now!
Any suggestions on how to tackle this problem and get rid of them/drive them off?
Thankyou guys  :D

I'm not sure if it's rodents, slugs or snails. Can you tell if there are little teeth marks where the stems have been eaten, or are there any signs of slime trails as the Myplex may harbour them as well. What a shame but there's still time to sow some more. I can't advocate rodent killer on this forum but maybe there's something on-line that may do the job.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.

I think I have the same problem, see attached pics. Initially blamed on Pigeons as my Cauli was also attached. However as both were protected I think mice is the issue. I put some Tom and Jerry stile traps out so lets see, Had the same before a few years back on my Broad beans and trapping just a couple stopped the damage.

I reckon its a bad infestation of Weevils as no sign of mice this morning. Also, I have similar damage on the Broad beans on leaves at the top and bottom of the plants.

Not sure weevils would have attached the Cauli mind you.
