I was at my local feed merchants today and noticed that they had Hemcore in, at the moment im just using a layer of newspaper and some soft chopped straw but am thinking maybe to change to this, is it popular amongst chookie owners????  nickyx :D

me too - this stuff makes cleaning out much easier.  There is no smell and its very absorbent.  It works out quite economical if you poo pick every couple of days.  :D

Hi hun, our girls love hemcore, its more expensive for a bag, but it lasts longer than shavings ;)

I use aubiose in the coop and it it great.  Smells nice and lasts for ages.

use hemcore in the coop and nest boxes.

they now do a version made from oil seed rape stems, called rapport as well, a bit cheaper.

both very absorbent used under the perch to poo pick out, i do mine daily

I use Hemcore too - the citronella they add smells lovely and I'm sure it helps keep any flies away, plus a bag lasts for ages.  I still use straw in the nest boxes though.

I love hemcore too although going through it at a rate of knots at the moment as 13 ducklings are on it! Usually lasts for ages.

In addition to all the other benefits others have mentioned it also composts down really quickly into a fab rich, moisure retentive compost for the garden. Most of my toms and all my tatties in bags are in it so will see how they do. Saved me a fortune in potting compost (providing they grow well!).
Be like a duck. Calm on the surface but always paddling like the dickens underneath.
