It didn't work when I tried it, I'm currently trying using spent coffee grounds.

I have tried EVERYTHING to rid my plot of slugs and snails.  Will NOT use pellets.  I have tried broken eggshells, copper pipes around beds, copper sleeves around plants, beer traps, soot and ash.   I have had (until this year cos seems to be a fungal disease across the country)  literally HUNDREDS of toads and frogs but even they could not reduce them sufficiently to make a difference.   THE ONLY way to get rid of the beasties is to go out at night with a torch.  Kill them if you must or collect them and take them into the woods or countryside next day.  I did this for a whole year, collecting most nights.  I still have plenty of both slugs and snails for the toads and frogs, but they are sort of under control now...

If I remember rightly you're in the west wight and I always throw mine that way, I do apologise.  Let's send them all to Totland.

hi there , we had big problems with snails and slugs until we used oyster shell grit, we scattered a 6 inch wide strip around our beds ,

we bought the oyster shell grit from pet supplies warehouse in hull , a 4 stone bag cost £9-00

Y'know what? I gather mine up into my little compost caddy, then I launch them onto my garage roof which is covered with that coarse harsh roofing felt, on a hot dry day to feed the blackbirds. The snails shrink inside their shells but the slugs still try to slither onwards. Some make it, some .... Don't.
I also have beer traps, etc

We got some stuff from B&Q that was on offer for £2 a bucket and it's working really well so far.

It's called Slug Barrier and comes in 5kg buckets and it say's on the label that it is totally natural and poison free.
