Straw Bale Bag
« on: January 02, 2013, 13:24 »
My local farm shop has started selling these bags to but their bales in.  They take a full bale of straw and stop it getting all over the place when its been moved around.  Very simple idea but it beats the old bed sheet I was wrapping around mine hands down.

I use a builders merchants bulk bag that once held sand. Easy to lift and open top useful for access when I bed down my ducks after cleaning out
I am interested that you can still buy "conventional" size bales, everything around us in North Lincolnshire is baled in massive round or square bales, too much to lift by hand -- I would be interested in getting some smaller ones --- where are you, please ???

My feed place near Walcott (near Billinghay/Woodhall Spa/Metheringham in Lincs does what I class normal size. Eclipse.
Only concern for the blue bag option would be if the straw isn't fully dry esp after the rain this year.

Hi,

The farm shop I go to for my straw just outside Barnsley:

Hilltop Farm/Hemingfield Rd, Barnsley S73 0PZ

The normal sized bales are all they sell to the public and are kept in the barn so are dry and the bag is quite breathable.  In fact, I'm seriously considering a second one for storing our large tent in as they are very well constructed and breathable.

I believe the full bales are £3.60 each and they last me 8 weeks, but I am only using them in the coop and run.  The hens also have a corner of the garden but I don't put straw down there.
