My seedlings are about 6 inches high now
Should I be thinking about planting them out now
They all look strong plants
I'm not expecting any frosts now (if the weather forecast can be believed)
But I am expecting plenty of rain
I live in West London, if that helps

If they're going outside, it may be a tad early.. parts of the uk had frosts in late April last year!

My tomatoes are over a foot tall now, out growing their pots
They are going to have to go out pretty soon I think
The weather down south has been pretty good, bit windy and wet though
I've been checking the weather for the next week or so, nothing below 5-6C
What is everyone else doing ?

All of mine are now in the greenhouse, but they're still in pots - so they are movable if we get a forecast for 5' or less. None get planted out in the open until end of April, beginning of May because I can't rely on the weather before then...

If you feel you really just have to plant them out, then have plenty of fleece at the ready - just in case.. plus keep your fingers crossed

If they do go out in the garden they will have to be well staked out, it's pretty windy out there, but not cold (but not shorts and tee shirt weather yet)

Even in sunny Athens, Georgia, we are expecting 2°C two nights from now. My tomatoes are not ready yet, but I would still be waiting until nights stay around 10°C or higher before planting out.

Mine are going out this afternoon,
They are going to be staked as well (very windy)
I couldnt wait any longer they were just getting too big for the pots
3 per wooden pots
Just got to find somewhere for my chilli plant (never tried this before)

I'm curious, do you have a target night (or day) temperature for planting tomatoes outdoors? Do you have different target temperatures for varieties that are supposed to be cold-tolerant (like Stupice)?

I generally look at the weather, listen to the forecast, ask what other people are doing

Then its up to me to make a choice, god or bad

I dont separate mine into different kinds of tomatoes, 3 of any kind go into a wooden pot

The best ever crop I had was when I went away for 2 weeks (no idea of the weather was like while I was away) came back the plants were so heavy with tomatoes they had fallen over (they were the cherry tomatoes variety)

Here in the UK it's fairly common to have a few night minimum temps of 8c in July/August. On the flip side it's not unusual to have minimum night temps of 13c in Dec/Jan

I will sow them shortly and they will soon catch up to earlier sown ones and they will definitely avoid any late frosts.

Our weather here is so variable, I need to see in the forecast that it won't fall below 50°F (10°C) for a month into the future before I trust it won't go significantly colder!!

I’m in London and I wouldn’t do it. Planted them out in early May once and they all got frosted to death. Luckily I had a few left still in pots in my backyard, which is always warmer. The longer term weather forecast isn’t accurate enough to be able to trust there won’t be anymore frosts.
Interesting re Stupice being cold resistant Subversive. It’s one of the 4 varieties I’m doing and the Stupice plantlets are noticeably bigger and stronger looking than the others.

Mine went out to the greenhouse in their pots today, but the peppers and chillies are still inside.  I have fleece on standby, but my greenhouse is in a sheltered position, so hoping to get away without it.
