If they have been grown in pots then any time when you can can continue to care for them... They will need lots of water to keep them going.

If not - autumn when it's cooler and a weekly watering will last longer.

Plant in October/November when they go dormant and it is less stress on the plant.  Soak the roots in a bucket for 20 mins, and dig the width of the hole to 2x the size of the rootball.  Add some BFB at the bottom of the hole and fork in, plant and stamp down well in and around the planting area.  Don't forget to give a good watering and then preferably a mulch if you can.

Lovely trees, I have one of my own and the berries are gorgeous

As they are so tiny (3 inches high is really tiny) please make sure they are protected from rabbits, chickens or even from being trampled on. Personally I would plant them into bigger pots and then think about planting them into the ground in a years time at the earliest.

Joyfull's dead right...... they'll last for ages in pots so don't be in a rush. You can give the new plant a bit of tender loving care until it's bigger if you keep it potted fopr a wile longer.

I had one grown from seed that lived in a pot for about 5 years until we needed a new tree. Once in the ground it will romp away if it is big enough to cope with the big wide open.  ;)

Definitely not - although if somebody is offering me a free holiday there in return for planting a little mountain ash then my bags all packed ready .

Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!
