Clear plastic covering the new seed bed?

Title says it all folks,  Does covering the newly sewn/sown seedbed with clear plastic?

I use clear plastic to warm the soil and encourage a first flush of weed germination.
I hoe these off and then sow what I want.
For strong growing seeds like peas and beans, I put the plastic back over, loosely, until I see the first signs of growth.

It must do some good considering the amount of fields we have over here with stripes of clear plastic covering them!
