Rot on copper beech tree
« on: January 07, 2014, 10:12 »
We have a copper beech "bush/tree" which we are trying to keep to a manageable size for a garden It is approximately 20' x 20' at the moment and branches out from ground level hence not knowing if it is a bush or a tree. Last year we pruned some of the longer branches quite severely and this year, since the leaves have fallen, I have noticed an orange spotty growth on the ends of the larger cut branches tracking back about 6"- 8". I presume this is a rot which got in to the cut end. Can anyone identify what it might be and how to deal with it as we would like to save the tree but are prepared to cut it back more as it is a vigorous grower.
I have looked on the internet but can't quite identify it.
Thanks for any suggestions.

I have a copper beech tree which was pruned a couple of months ago to reduce its spread. The orange spots could be coral spot, often found on dying wood, so it just may mean that the ends haven't quite healed yet.
I work very hard so don't expect me to think as well.
