Stressed hen!
« on: February 28, 2010, 20:49 »
Would stress bring on a partial moult? Recently gave my chooks a new coop, ever since my one hen has not laid and I put this down to the move, now she is losing feathers no bald patches as yet!

It could be just coincidence, have you checked to see if she is laying her eggs elsewhere? mine have laid on the back of lorry trailers, under bushes and Looby found a stash under her shed  When did you change coups? How old is the hen?
Staffies are softer than you think.

She is 18 months old, went through a long moult in the autumn but looks great now. Had gone back to laying every day but stopped just over a week ago when they moved home. She is def not laying anywhere else and no creepy crawlies gave her a good check over today, also eating, drinking and behaving normally, however fair few of her feathers in the coop this morning made me think she is moulting again.

I don't think it's anything to worry about as you say she is eating, drinking and behaving normally - give her time to get used to things - they are strange creatures at times  :D

Stress can cause a moult, she is pobably just a little unsettled at the moment, like Joy says, they can be strange (but fab) creatures at times, give her a little time, maybe give her a tonic like poultry spice or lifeguard if she isnt already having it.
