Title: Ribena/Vimto wine
Post by: fallen angel on August 18, 2015, 14:10
Hi guys me again!

I have just been to asda and bought 12 big bags of sugar some ribena (not the no added sugar one) but it no longer says 'original' on the packaging I hope I have got the right one? Some vimto as I was sure I had read somewhere about it? I also bought some mango and lime vimto all vimto's are also no added sugar.

Please could someone tell me if I bought the right ones? Also how much do I use for 1 demijohn of wine as the 1.5lt bottle was on offer so I got 2 :-)

Many thanks.

If the Vimto is no added sugar, then it is artificially sweetened, which according to my recipe isn't any good.  That's why it states original, but if the ribena ISN'T NAS then that should be okay.

I avoided all bottles that said no added sugar ribena and vimto so fingers crossed  :D how much should I use? The mango and lime vimto is 850ml the others are 1.5lt I think?

Many thanks.

This is the Ribena recipe I used, hope it helps.

This makes 1 gallon.

Ribena Wine

1 bottle of original Ribena (not artificially sweetened must be 'Original').
1 teaspoon of citric acid or juice from one lemon.
1 sachet of winemaking yeast.
1 teaspoon of yeast nutrient.
1 1/2 lbs of sugar.

Method

Empty bottle of Ribena into glass one gallon demijohn (sterilised).
Top up to the shoulder of the demijohn with cold boiled water.
Add sugar, Yeast, citric acid, yeast nutrient.
Fit airlock shake and leave.
Takes about 2-3 months depending on room temperature.
Some people boil the Ribena for a few minutes but I've never bothered

So if a 'normal' bottle of Ribena is 850ml, then with your 1.5l ones you will have nearly enough for 2 gallons!   ;) ;)
