Pea advice
« on: April 26, 2010, 20:00 »
My peas are starting to come up, but look very munched. Ive been told its birds, but they havent really improved since covering them. Could mice also be pea eaters?

Also, for some reason i cant get my head round pea supports. The variety i have do not grow big, and so far have just a wooden bbq skewer for support. What would be best? And will a few lines of string between a couple of canes be sufficiant?

Thanks!

You can't beat this  for showing pea supports. Just keep adding strings till they stop getting taller :)

Have they got little v shaped nibbles around the edges of the leaves?

If they're small circular chunks out of the leaves, it's probably weevils. Mine have been attacked really badly, but apparently they should grow through it.

That is a great picture! Thanks for that. Its more or less what i have done for the broad beans, so will follow suit - thanks!

Now, what exactly are weevils???!!

weevils are little critters that take bites out of the edges of the leaves, but as stated the peas usually grow out of them, so you don't have to do anything  :D
