Kenilworth's garlic problem
« on: June 15, 2015, 11:14 »
Sorry to ambush the thread but I think I have run into the same problem with my August sown garlic as well. Not sure whether its the leaf miner, onion fly or maybe even rust. Have marks all over the leafs, have checked for maggots, pupae but cant see any, though that doesn't mean they aren't there of course.......Will attempt to download photos below if anyone could kindly identify would be truly grateful......

question split from Lardman's thread for clarity mos

It's rust, and without wanting to be negative it doesn't mean that's the only problem with them, although it is the most obvious.

Can't really do more than remove the worst-affected leaves which will help reduce the rate of spread, but it's something which affects mine every year to a greater or lesser degree.

Looks nasty but with any luck it's happened late enough not to affect bulb formation too much.

Sow your seeds, plant your plants. What's the difference? A couple of weeks or more when answering possible queries!

One of the best things about being an orang-utan is the fact that you don't lose your good looks as you get older

Thanks for the identifications guys, I at least now know what I am most likely fighting. I suspected it was rust just because I couldn't find any larvae or maggots etc, but thought it would be worth asking.......

Thanks Again...........
