Have the leaves got wet & then been in the sun?

They are in my polytunnel so do not get direct sunlight, but even though I open it up in the day it does get hot. They probably have got wet with my quick watering though.

I think that's unlikely this early in the year and undercover, when no blight has been reported in the area so far. How many plants are close together? Is the door open in this hot weather? Botrytis?

It has to start somewhere.
There have been severe outbreaks north of Telford and near Lands End.

Plants are about 14" apart. I open the polytunnel every day. It has been hot and humid here recently and I do tend to water from above and the bottom leaves do get wet. I worry that I haven;t got the watering right or whether I should feed them. I usually put them in the soil of my polytunnel and rotate them around on a three year rota. This year I decided to rest the soil and I have put them in buckets of compost (Miracle grow). Now I am wondering if I have sealed my fate and will lose them all. :unsure:

Hi it could be as simple as lack of nutrients in the compost, try a general fertiliser (especially a foliage spray) if that doesn't help then you look to have a virus.

Sounds like it might be sun scorch, give them a feed & try watering in an evening in to the soil.

I grow mine in a polytunnel and have had blight most years. Looks like blight to me......

This thread is now 9 days old - if it was blight the plant will be a black fungal mess.
If it is still growing - it wasn't blight.
A lot of people mistake Botrytis for blight, as this also causes dark patches - but stems will be grey brown and furry with Botrytis, they are black and slimey with late blight.
If you see botrytis then remove damaged leaves and spray the patches (not the whole plant) with neat lemon juice.

You can also wrap the stem with wide sellotape to keep the stem going long enough to ripen fruit above the mould patch. I've done this a few times - it stops the mould spreading spores and strengthens it for a while.

I cut all infected leaves off and was left with some at the very top, but the plants were only 2ft high so I have hope. They seem to be all right. I tried to purchase fungicide for veggies but could not find any. So I am watering carefully and making sure that they have plenty of ventilation. I also gave them some seaweed fertiliser just in case. So far it has not spread anymore so I am clueless as to what it was. I never get blight in my polytunnel and I certainly dont have any on my potatoes. Will let you know what happens.
