Title: Do cockrels go broody?????????
Post by: chooknewbie on March 11, 2009, 16:22
ok ok, i know, i sound potty, but one of my girlies seems to be rather fond of her nest today, and the lad thats in there with her, has been furkling about in the nest boxes for a few days... today, i went in and she was quite happy sitting in her nest box, and he came charging in and plonked himself directly between me and her!! Is he doing the macho male thing and protecting his Mrs? or he just being his usual male self and telling me to stay out of his coop... is there a difference????...lol...

It sounds to me like he's helping her get a nest ready for babies chooky, so yes I guess he's protecting her  :)

Thought it was 'furtling' - rummaging!
Having a degree in geology I like the term 'fossicking' for raking about too. :D
