:idea: if you havnt got a router then you can use a circular saw depends on the thickness of the glass and the cut that saw leaves
or you can nail/screw 2 rips of battern to the 4x2 leaving a small gap to slot the glass into

I think those frames look fantastic Leeky! A neighbour kindly gave me some large perspex sheets 10ftx3ft and your pic has got me thinking but I have to ask, what is a router, does anyone have a pic of one? Any ideas on how I can make a frame (I'm a female so go easy) and an ABC set of instructions would put a smile on my face!

Here's a router what kind of frame are you looking at making they are all pretty straight forward

if your not used to using one id forget it  calou, go to a decent diy store and buy window frame lengths  then cut the ends at an angle of 45' and join together with screws or staples and then fit the perspex in , alternativly take them to a friend who can make them up for you , smiles n a drinky werks ..............specially from a lady     . ask wellies she do it all the time

10x3 perpex would make a great lid for a cold frame indeed. What the lads said about the router is true. Be very careful if you do get one, they spin very fast. goggles, gloves etc.

The boxes in my pic could do with solid tops actually, being poly and level, they fill with water and droop!    better if they were at an angle to drain off.

Leeky, I had thought I should make the lids at an angle to prevent the rain as you say and having chatted to some of the guys in our "works" dept today they gave me some ideas for knocking some frames up. You'll have a long wait if you wanna see a pic though (and only available to those who have had a good dose of homebrew) lol

They look very useful splodger but I really have an aversion to glass.  I suppose its ever since my brother was carrying a bag of compost into my greenhouse for me and he tripped and fell through the side wall  :shock:  :cry:
