which colour paint????
« on: April 29, 2010, 23:07 »
We recently had a few incidents of arson on our plots which required the fire men to attend.
However, due to years of neglect, not many of  our plots are numbered and the fire service have asked us to rectify this.
So basically, which colour would be best for using. Black / white or other.
As outdoor paint is expensive i need to get this right.
Any ideas?
I have about 150 plots to number.
Thanks.

I cant see that the colour of the paint would make a huge difference would it? I would get whatevers cheapest. To be honest though I cant see how having the plots numbered would help the firebrigade, surely they could just contact the allotment comittee? who would then contact the plot holder? In any regards though would it not just be easier to make all plotholders number there own plots and the you wouldonly be left numbering the empty ones

Why do they want the numbers painted ?

Surely the smoke and flames will give them a clue to which plot needs their services.

I would think it makes report writing easier for both police, fir and council.  We have most of our plots numbered and if you want to direct someone around the site to a person it makes it easier.

I would try and go for a router and some pallet wood to make up some numbers over time.
What ever colour you chose will be wrong with others   I would go with Blue ronseal and white numbers. :D
Thanks

The fire brigade need to know what people have in their sheds that could be dangerous to them. Contacting the plotholder direct saves time.
Along with the police, they have a list of plotholders contact number.

i shudder to think what's in some sheds... I heard about an allotment secretary who, when he found out something was going to be banned, went out and bought as much as he could - whether he usually used it or not!

We are asked to have our plot numbers on display and to make sure they are easlily read. I am going to paint mine on my shed in black (the shed will be olive green) at least 1ft high I just wish it was 77 not 76 straightlines are easier to paint.

You could go for Fluorescent Paint  - Green, red, yellow, orange, pink ...  then they could find the sheds in the dark!  Wow!

yep!
black on yellow or black on white is predominant ones.
dont use white on read. It is readable but not for colour blind people I assume as I had a colleague who was unable to read anything on red background
