I need advice !
« on: March 07, 2013, 23:08 »
After the death of on old 6x6 wooden glasshouse semi panelled ,that I kept frost free all year and warm at times I have to replace it !

I have gone for a 9x6 polycarbonate also semi glazed .I am doing this on the basis that it is an investment and if looked after should last me 20 yrs. The plans are to insulate the timber panels with insulation board clad with exterior glade ply ,with the whole of the inside being white glossed for light reflection "possibly foil where the bed is" As you look at it there will be a potting bench on the right 900x600 a central slabbed path then staging all down the left ,with a full power supply !

My question is if I should put water in ? it would not be that hard and I have the pipe lying around its only about 20ft ,it has to go through the cold house but I need to change the soil in there this year anyway so that's a large part of it done ?
I cook therefore I grow

Sounds like a good idea if it means less work later should you need it.  :)

Actually a large volume of water in a greenhouse will help keep it warm. It gains from solar energy through the day and acts as a thermal store, slowly releasing gained heat as the evening cools.
Will definitely keep it frost free.

I agree with your post that water will keep them warm and because of it, you will get great benefit of it...

If you mean mains water via  a tap then no. The water will be full of chemicals and will also be too cold for the plant'a especially on "Hot" (joke) summer day's. If you are talking water butt then yes .
