Fishing Season 2019/2020
« on: January 01, 2019, 18:36 »
Thought as I am going fishing on Thursday we may as well start this seasons thread.
Christmas was kind, a new #5 weight rod, a new reel to fit above, some new line and with some money given to me I have ordered a new reel bag to keep the reels in.
Have a great 2019 with plenty of tight lines.

Punk isn't dead...it's underground where it belongs. If it comes to the surface it's no longer punk...it's Green Day!

First trip out of the New Year today, forcast was for freezing temps but the cloud came in last night and kept it just above, at the water it was I thought perfect!
Two chaps had caught two fish by the time I was set up so off I went in good hopes only to be dashed, three hours of nothing, times were getting desperate and the old faves were not producing so change of tatics, single fly the old Pink Baby Doll, sinking tip on the floating line and before I knew it, bang, 2 lber on the bank.
A few fish were being caught here and there and nothing consistent.
A little walk around and it took another hour before the second fish was on the bank, another 2lbs.
Was able to use the new rod n reel but didnt christen it as the fish were on my #7 rod.
Still better than working and we have trout for tea.

So....
15 years ago we moved from my beloved Wigan to Tropical Blackpool, many boxes were put in my converted man cave (the attic), over the years these boxes were emptied and the items found their place in the happy home.
When I started to fish again the first thing I did was dig out my fly tying stuff, 2 years later a new box was bought and it lives downstairs under the stairs, over these two years I have topped that new box up with materials that I needed for tying my fave flies.
Imagine my horror when my wife at the start of this week said... " I am going up to clear the attic"     Thats my man cave! There is nothing to clear out
This afternoon, this so called lovely wife has texted to say.. "I have found some feathers in a box" a little confused I asked for a photo so she sent me these...

Bonus! What a lovely surprise
I try to take one day at a time, but sometimes several days all attack me at once...

Nice to see a fishing thread here. Don't get out a lot but had this on light line a month ago.

In my local rural community as I was growing up, fishing gardening, and indeed shooting/ferreting/working terriers (take your pick) seemed to hand in hand.
Cheers

Just written my list of flies I need to tie before the season starts in April. So I need to spend some time at the vice, starting tonight! It's also club renewal time, so money to be spent on the sport I love in the next few months!

Hi Pescador.
There is some free fishing on the lower Taff, but Glamorgan anglers used to manage a lot of the water from around Blackweir up to Radyr weir. They do day tickets see link below. I used to fish Llandaff and Radyr quite regularly when I lived in Cardiff.

Thanks very much Aled, I've contacted them for further details. I'm keen to get a few days in this year after not wetting a line in 2018 following move/setting up new allotments/new customer base for Paul's Preserves and Pickles in Wales!

Trip to Bank House today, had some of targets...
1. Christen the new rod
2.Catch on buzzers (always used nympths and lures)
3. Enjoy fishing for the day.

Manged No.3

Probably the best one.

Got there and had a look in the book and noted cats whisker was battering them!
So first thing I did ignore it and started with the buzzers, everyone was catching around me stripping lures! 2 hours in and I decided sod it so got me other rod with a fly I have been developing, I call the seasider, its basicly  a orange n white tinsel lure, first cast and fish on the bank  After an hour and 4 more fish and one prob a new PB that snapped me tippet I decided to go back to plan B.
Sadly although a few little tugs here and there couldnt manage No1 or No2 but a great day had.
Put a photo on you can see the Seasider.
