watch out for the crows. i have lost 2 ducklings of 12wk old to them and luckily arrived in time to save numer 3. 2 crows had it pinned on the ground >:( >:( the carcase of the other 2 were very cleanly picked and i blamed the poor cat! have since said sorry to the cat. not like foxes, they don't kill loads at once however come back a few days later for the next meal. lost the ducklings 4 days apart.

thanks. poor wee things. they were really quite tall, so didn't think this could happen. a hard lesson to learn, and a problem to fix

Thanks very much for the warning though. I had to run out into the garden the other day because i forgot I'd left the chicks' run open and I saw a crow out there. Thankfully their Mum had them all huddled up under her safe and sound.
I couldn't quite imagine the crows actually doing anything like that... obviously they do....

Crows have taken approx 2 doz of my hens so far. A couple will actually land on the bird riding it like a jockey + constantly peck at the head until dead then disembowel. Now I don't go out without an air rifle.

sorry for your losses. awful birds. knew they were bullies but i didn't realise they could be so vicious. i am making arrangments for them to be dealt with.

It is generally safer to keep young poultry in a covered run to prevent these types of occurrences. Other culprits can be magpies, other members of the crow family, sparrowhawks and all birds of prey. I am so sorry for your losses it must have been heartbreaking.

Oh dear sorry to hear that, they were quite big i persume, i have four ducklings about that age so must b aware .
