Garlic for growing
« on: July 24, 2011, 12:55 »
I harvested my garlic about a week ago and it is currently hanging in the shed.  If I want to use some for replanting what do I do with it?  Is it ok to dry it with the rest of the bulbs or have I ruined my chances?

I have had no problem replanting garlic that has dried with the rest.
I have found that its best to use the garlics whose cloves are starting to split / divide from each other for re-planting, as they dont seem to store as good as the others.
Hope that helps  :)

Are you positive that big 'seed cloves' produce big garlic?      Seems a shame to use the biggies for sowing.   I think I'll stick in a few littlies just to see ! ! !    Cheers,   Tony.

Strangely enough, the Marco I grew this year weren't very big bulbs, but all of them, even the really tiny ones, had all big cloves. And for that matter the Iberian Wight I grew, which did give me some whopper bulbs, also seem to have all big cloves. Yet last year, when I grew Solent Wight, I had a lot of very small fiddly cloves and mostly pretty small bulbs. I didn't do anything different, so either they really liked all that snow or it's just the different varieties, I guess.
