clear plastic sheeting for veg plots
« on: January 06, 2012, 17:31 »
I have read that covering your bare winter plot with clear plastic sheeting warms the soil and encourages an initial growth of weeds which can then be hoed off.  Have other people found this to be of significant benefit? (I do get a lot of weeds as my plot is surrounded by uncultivated land).  The cost of plastic sheeting is quite high and I am not sure what thickness/quality I should get to ensure I get more than one years use out of it? Any advice would be very helpful.  Many thanks.  Pennyj

I put plastic onto a couple of small beds to warm them up for early planting, and find that it does work.

I just use the UV stabilised kind that they sell by the metre to cover cloches/small tunnels
