Hi

I have grown a few Chilli plants and so far they are about 10cm high.  I have kept them in my conservatory, but I wanted to check what was best to do with them now, should I keep them inside on windowsil or will they grow best outside?

I grew mine outside ( in a sunny spot) last year and they were happy enough! i am going to grow this years in a homemade polytunnel just to keep the heat up as i started them a little late.
You really need to keep on top of the bugs... when they are outside it was a daily exercise checking the underside of the leafs etc

Gardeners World did an experiment a couple of years ago and got some people to grow them under glass and some outside. The results were that the ones under glass produced fewer but larger fruits and the ones grown outside produced more but smaller fruits. I have mine in the greenhouse and there they will stay.

I have a few plants I'm raising this year. Most are in the greenhouse but one I kept on the windowsill in the kitchen (South facing) and it's beating it's greenhouse-raised  brethren hands down in both size and vigour... Mind you, as the temps rise outside, I'll bet they catch up.

I'm doing half an half, I figure even if it doesn't make a massive amount of difference in the end result it might spread the crop out over a wider period

Is it best to grow them in pots, grow bags or raised beds. I have space in the poly tunnel for any of the above.

I only planted mine a couple of weeks ago ,  we only recently decided to go for the greenhouse so i sowed the seeds as soon as i knew but even so we are very behind everyone else.  When the greenhouse is finished (home-made) hopefulluy this weekend mine will live in there.

Mine is on the kitchen windowsill.  About 20cm high and about to show first flower - seems really early and too small!  Gona roll with it though...  :blink:

My cayenne peppper is on the bathroom window ledge at the mo and has a few flowers and has set one fruit It about 12in high really must put it in a bigger pot and put it out in g/h or small polytunnel....but i'm fast running out of room. Got 5 or 6 plum toms i can't find room for at the mo. I dunno

An eleven year old at our school is now well inot his chilli plants -- has them on his bedroom windowsill
