Dear fellow gardeners,

Last year I planted strawberries varieties Elsanta and Max Fruct. As they were first year I hardly had any crop. But I remember someone said to me I had to remove the first flowers appearing. All plants survived the winter well and most show flowers. Do I remove them as well and wait for new flowers to come or can I leave them as they are in their second year?

I would cover them and keep them covered.

No rush to plant them out-mine don't got out until early July!

Can't comment on when to raise the mesh-I just lift it when needed, I don't have the time/flexibility to base it around when it's raining!! I suffered a bit this year but that was my fault for being lax over pegging down the mesh.

Definitely pot them up today! They grow very fast....

Have a nice holiday  :)

Grow Your Own / Chitting sweetcorn, when to pot up?
« Last post by missmoneypenny on Today at 09:54 »
I’ve had woeful germination with direct sowing so I’m trying chitting on damp kitchen roll in a Tupperware. Some have a little root sticking out, about 4mm. Im going on holiday for a week tomorrow. Can I leave them till I get back or should I plant the ones that have sprouted now?  Thank you

You could try breaking the rat tunnel up - maybe they'll move elsewhere. If the asparagus is attracting them, moving it to a metal raised bed probably won't stop them getting to it.

Light rain clearly because I want to cut the grass at the plot!

Unfortunately given the weather this year I think you would have to assume that May is the same as March or April. I’m thinking that the bugs will follow the weather not the calendar. If it was me I would plant with mesh in place now. Good luck

At 11C it's feeling chilly after the last few days. No gardening today cos it's raining  :(

8C overnight in the greenhouse.

It was a bit overcast first thing but now it's intermittent sun but no breeze to speak of, probably because since I got a weather vane mounted on the end of my greenhouse there hasn't been any!
