Title: Is this a Scotch Bonnet chilli?
Post by: Nobbie on July 25, 2020, 17:10
Last year my ‘Scotch Bonnet’ chillis looked like this and turned out not at all hot, more like green peppers. The seeds were from a packet labled as Scotch Bonnet and we’re supposed to be hot. I put it down to a rogue batch of seeds.

This year I bought a new pack of seeds from a different supplier and they look like they are turning out just the same. Any idea what is going on here? I haven’t tried one of this years chillis yet, but they don’t look like any Scotch Bonnet I’ve seen on the packet or online.

Nice pepper plants. I have grown them before but they did not look like these ones ... but that does not mean that these are not scotch bonnet peppers because they do look like peppers I have seen online that are scotch bonnet. On thing about scotch bonnet peppers is they do need lots of really hot sunny weather to give them a real bite... the ones I grew were definitely what I would term hot peppers.

Hmm they look more like Bishop's Crown Chillies to me, but I couldn't say that with certainty.
Where do you buy your seeds from?

They were from B&Q and they look nothing like the packet.

I guess you may have got unlucky and had another bad batch of seeds  :(
I normally pay a bit extra for chilli seeds and order mine from 'Plants of Distinction', I've always had good quality seeds from them.
