Briggs and stratton - oil in cylinder
« on: April 08, 2011, 13:36 »
I stupidly turned my mower upside down to remove the blade for sharpening, and oil spilled out of the engine, and into the carb. I think there is some inside the cylinder too as I can't turn it over with the plug in, it stops on the compression stroke. If I remove the plug it turns over fine. Is there a way to clear it out without removing the head? I would rather not have to buy a new gasket.

Thanks :)

Just remove the plug, keep the spark plug lead away from your fingers, keep a rag over the plug hole and pull the recoil over vigorously for a minute or two.
Replace the plug, replace the lost oil in the crankcase, and it should (!!!) start.
Your town will disappear in smoke, but the local gardeners should be happy to get their black fly fumigated for free. Keep the engine going for 5 minutes to burn of the oil in the cylinder/exhaust/carb.

Oh yeah, and don't do it again ;)
